Resources Week 32

Johnson family pictureMany people find medication costs difficult to manage. The number of people who leave prescriptions at the pharmacy keeps getting larger because they can’t afford them.

You may see advertisements regularly that promise “medications for less,” but the savings are often marginal. And if you don’t have health insurance coverage for medications and you have prescription needs you know how difficult it can be.

The reality is that the large chain pharmacies have contracts with pharmaceutical companies that prohibit them from offering medications to cash-paying customers for a decreased rate – even if they wanted to. The answer may be to cut the insurance companies out of the equation! That’s what MedSavers does, and it’s our first resource on the list this week.

1. MedSavers Pharmacy. MedSavers doesn’t take insurance. They charge you just a small amount over what their cost is in order to save you the most money. If there’s a generic available for your medication and you don’t have insurance, MedSavers may be able to save you 50%, or even 75% or more on the cost you would pay at a large change pharmacy. Check them out!

2. NeedyMeds.org. If you need a brand-name medication and are struggling to pay for it, NeedyMeds is a clearing house for a large number of medication assistance programs. Coupons, discount options, and more. You may even quality for a year’s worth of free medications under some circumstances. You don’t know unless you check!

3. Totally Free Ministries. This next week our monthly newsletter will come out, and we’d love to send you your copy. Here’s the email signup spot. And we’d be happy to send you the hard copy by snail mail also. Just let us know your mailing address in the comment here.
